Japan Amends Textile Product Quality Labeling Regulation

On December 25, 2024, the Consumer Affairs Agency published Notification No. 13, amending the Textile Product Quality Labeling Regulation to improve consumer information accuracy.

Key Changes:

  1. Addition of "アクリレート" (Acrylate) as a designated fiber name for fiber labelling
  2. Setting the official moisture content for Acrylate fiber at 30% (previously treated as 0%)

Background of the Amendment:

  • Acrylate fiber, despite being synthetic, has uniquely high moisture content. Prior to this amendment, Acrylate was categorized as "other synthetic fibers" with 0% moisture content, causing significant discrepancy in blend ratio calculations for fiber labelling.
  • The revision aligns with updates to JIS L 1030-2 (April 2024), which introduced methods for testing the blend ratio of Acrylate fibers

Implementation:

Effective Date : January 1, 2025

Grace Period: Until December 31, 2025 (existing labels remain acceptable)
