IEC 60068 2 2 Test B: Dry Heat – Ensuring Component Performance in High Temperature Environments
Standard: IEC 60068‑2‑2: Environmental Testing – Part 2‑2: Tests – Test B: Dry Heat
Scope: IEC 60068‑2‑2 Test B: Dry Heat outlines procedures to determine the suitability of products for use, transport, or storage at high temperatures. The standard includes tests applicable to both non‑heat‑dissipating and heat‑dissipating specimens, simulating gradual temperature changes to assess product resilience. This ensures that components maintain their integrity and functionality when exposed to high‑temperature environments.
Applicable Products: This standard applies to a range of products, including:
- Electronic control units (ECUs)
- Sensors and actuators
- Battery systems
- Lighting systems
- Infotainment systems
- Other components requiring validation for high‑temperature performance
Test Procedure: In our specialized lab, we conduct IEC 60068‑2‑2 Test B: Dry Heat using state‑of‑the‑art equipment to ensure accurate and reliable results. The test procedures include:
- Test Bb: Dry Heat Test for Non‑Heat‑Dissipating Specimens with Gradual Temperature Change: The component is placed in a chamber at ambient temperature. The temperature is gradually increased to the specified high condition to prevent detrimental effects due to temperature change. Once the component stabilizes at the target temperature, it is maintained under these conditions for the required duration to assess its performance.
- Test Bd: Dry Heat Test for Heat‑Dissipating Specimens with Gradual Temperature Change: This procedure is designed for heat‑dissipating specimens. The component is introduced into the test chamber, and the temperature is gradually increased. Low air velocity circulation is used to allow localized hot spots to develop within the specimen, simulating real‑world conditions.
- Test Be: Dry Heat Test for Heat‑Dissipating Specimens with Gradual Temperature Change, Specimen Powered Throughout: Like Test Bd, but the specimen remains powered throughout the test, allowing for the assessment of operational performance under high‑temperature conditions.
End Result: Successful completion of IEC 60068‑2‑2 Test B: Dry Heat confirms that components can withstand and function effectively in high‑temperature environments.
